Pros and Cons of Gender Quotas Essay
There has been an extensive improvement of female portrayal in numerous everyday issues in the previous century: in ââ¬Å"2012, ladies brought home in excess of 33% of the medalsâ⬠granted at the London Olympics, however more significantly, ââ¬Å"the level of ladies on the sheets of the 100 biggest organizations has ascended over the previous year to a record of 15. 6%. What's more, over the most recent a half year, 35% of new board arrangements to FTSE 250 organizations have been womenâ⬠(Braund). Numerous nations, drove by Norway, have advanced female portrayal by actualizing sexual orientation quantities for corporate sheets and they do so in light of the fact that sex amounts increment decent variety in the working environment and with expanded assorted variety comes numerous subsidiary advantages. Expanded assorted variety without anyone else is a huge advantage; ââ¬Å"it is in congruity with the ideas of balance and representationâ⬠(Bilkisu). By expanding decent variety on corporate sheets, we can ââ¬Å"give quick increment in womenââ¬â¢s portrayal [and] ensure ââ¬Ëequality of resultsââ¬â¢ for ladies and men aspirantsâ⬠and, in doing as such, bolster the ideas of opportunity and freedom that this nation was found upon (Bilkisu). Moreover, not exclusively do sexual orientation portions advance popular government through expanded assorted variety, they likewise help to overcome the propensities of gatherings made out of comparable people. Corporate sheets with individuals that ââ¬Å"have comparable foundations and have experienced comparative socialization are almost certainly to share perspectives and assumptions and [are] less inclined to take part in vivacious conversation and to challenge managementâ⬠(Gratton). Sharing perspectives and assumptions and the hesitance to banter among each other outcomes in oblivious compliance, in which bunch individuals attempt to limit struggle by arriving at agreement and thusly make a climate of diminished imagination, uniqueness, and autonomous reasoning. This situation frequently exists in all male or greater part male corporate sheets in light of the fact that ââ¬Å"they tend towards ââ¬Ëthe unsafe shiftââ¬â¢ which brings about them intriguing with one another [and] additionally come up short on the assorted systems that are so significant to successful data search and choice makingâ⬠(Gratton). Assorted variety advanced by sex standards ââ¬Å"can give a more extensive scope of feeling, experience and systems administration yet in addition can help forestall mindless compliance that can upset innovationâ⬠(Dong-youb). By presenting more ladies, organizations can reate a domain that smothers oblivious conformity inclinations and considers a bigger assortment of thoughts and suppositions to be shared. Acquainting more ladies with corporate sheets through sexual orientation amounts can help the business ââ¬Å"better comprehend the requirements of various clients and workersâ⬠and with the expanding globalization of the worldââ¬â¢s economy, the client base and work power for organizations are in actuality getting progressively differing (Dong-youb). A superior comprehension of this undeniably differing gathering of individuals permits the business to support their business sectors appropriately and appreciate proceeded with benefit. Also, ââ¬Å"women seem, by all accounts, to be step by step assuming responsibility for the economyâ⬠¦ ladies control around 70 percent of family unit spendingâ⬠and with ladies settling on a greater amount of the monetary choices, the requirement for additional ladies on corporate sheets turns out to be significantly more extremely obvious (Bart). Particularly ââ¬Å"in the purchaser segment [where] the items and servicesâ⬠¦ are principally purchased by women,â⬠clearly naming more ladies to corporate sheets would bolster the expanding number of female customers by advancing their inclinations in business choices (Gratton). Organizations that decide to overlook this move in the public arena would squander the sufficient measure of ability that exists as of now, just as leaving behind the ââ¬Å"estimated monetary advantages and lift to profitability of expanding female interest in the workforceâ⬠¦ at 11 percent of gross local productâ⬠(Coonan). ââ¬Å"Diversity at the board-level additionally gives good examples at the highest point of the professional bureaucracy that empower yearning more youthful workers with non-customary capabilities or backgroundsâ⬠(Dong-youb). There have been an expanding number of ladies trying out advanced education in relation to men and an expansion in the quantity of ladies on corporate sheets would furnish those youthful hopeful ladies with a good example. Nonetheless, notwithstanding all the advantages that actualizing sexual orientation standards could have, there has not been as much change on the cosmetics of corporate sheets as would be normal and there is a gathering of individuals that ââ¬Å"are getting baffled by an absence of progress around there and essentially need quotasâ⬠¦ as an impetus to disturb the dormancy and invigorate certifiable actionâ⬠(Jury). Cons of Gender Quotasà While there are numerous individuals who see the advantages of sexual orientation shares on corporate sheets and firmly bolster the usage of such, there are additionally individuals who see a sex amount as ââ¬Å"wrong on a basic level, experiences issues by and by, is tokenistic and is counterproductive to the end goalâ⬠(Jury). A great part of the view that sexual orientation standards are not the answer for the absence of decent variety on corporate sheets can be added to the conviction that ââ¬Å"the key models for a board arrangement must be ability and appropriatenessâ⬠and this conviction is shared by the two organizations and the ladies that organizations utilize (Gratton). Everybody wants to be picked for specific positions dependent on merit instead of being picked for different reasons, since being picked dependent on merit recognizes qualities and excuses any allegations of particular treatment, particularly when determination forms are straightforward. Ladies confronting minority portrayal on corporate sheets are particularly unyielding that they ââ¬Å"donââ¬â¢t need to go on a board as a token gesture[, they] need to be there in light of the fact that itââ¬â¢s meritoriousâ⬠(McFarland). Ladies, much the same as men, need to be perceived for their aptitudes and accomplishments and not their appearance or sex; ââ¬Å"no lady needs to be a token female[,] yet the ongoing call for amounts of ladies in the meeting room risks accomplishing precisely thatâ⬠(Mantzarapis). Actualizing a sexual orientation quantity for corporate sheets can influence the elements of the working environment contrarily by advancing the recognition that ladies are just being selected onto sheets because of sex and not capacity. These presumptions and questions concerning the explanations for the advancement of ladies all add to ââ¬Å"undermin[ing] her capacity from the beginning and may make it increasingly hard for her to demonstrate herselfâ⬠(Mantzarapis). Regardless of whether the organization straightforwardly asserts that its choices depend just on merit and not sexual orientation, the presence of sex shares alone makes questions be gotten some information about the explanations for an advancement or arrangement regardless of what the genuine reasons are. Since a quantity framework dependent on sex would sabotage the benefits of those females who might be named to corporate loads up, those against sexual orientation portions accept ââ¬Å"it would be an affront to ladies and an extraordinary insult to organizations if ladies are delegated to fill quotasâ⬠¦ as measures will definitely be undermined when a self-assertive numerical objective is set against a ridiculous timelineâ⬠(Khoo).

OCD Reassurance Seeking Why Harmful and How to Deal
OCD Reassurance Seeking Why Harmful and How to Deal OCD Living With OCD Print OCD and Excessive Reassurance Seeking Providing reassurance to someone with OCD can make the issue worse By Owen Kelly, PhD Medically reviewed by Medically reviewed by Steven Gans, MD on June 20, 2016 Steven Gans, MD is board-certified in psychiatry and is an active supervisor, teacher, and mentor at Massachusetts General Hospital. Learn about our Medical Review Board Steven Gans, MD Updated on January 09, 2020 laflor/Getty Images More in OCD Living With OCD Causes Symptoms and Diagnosis Treatment Types Related Conditions One of the things that family and friends of people affected by obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) find to be the most stressful when interacting with their loved one is the excessive reassurance-seeking that can often accompany the condition. Excessive reassurance seeking is the need to check in with someone over and over again to make sure everything is OK with respect to a particular worry or obsession. While responding may seem supportive, it only serves to perpetuate OCD behaviors and thoughts. Examples of Excessive Reassurance Seeking Excessive reassurance seeking is a compulsive act done in hopes of reducing the anxiety associated with an obsession. The compulsion often goes up when levels of distress are high and/or when the person feels unable to tolerate uncertainty. What people feel the need to be reassured about varies, but there are often consistent themes for each individual. Running through a few hypothetical examples can help illustrate the various forms this tendency can take and how those around people with OCD may respond. Safety Paola experiences obsessions related to hitting someone while driving her car and not realizing it. When on the road, she asks her husband to look in the rearview mirror over and over again to make sure that pedestrians are safe. Although annoyed, her husband does not want her to feel anxious, so he does as asked and tells her everything is OK. Sexual Thoughts Jake has sexual obsessions related to raping a stranger. Even though Jake finds these thoughts distressing and does not want to have them, he is convinced these thoughts mean that he is a molester. He is constantly asking his brother whether that is true and whether he has ever seen him harm someone in this way. His brother refuses to discuss the issue, which causes Jake to become even more distressed. Health Donna is extremely worried that she will contract a sexually transmitted disease from doorknobs in public places. After washing her hands, she will often ask a friend, or even a stranger if her anxiety is high enough, whether her hands look clean or whether she should be worried about contracting an illness. Even if they tell her that she shouldnt be worried, she asks a number of but what if questions until she feels completely confident that her hands are clean. Friends and family now avoid going with her to public places because of her behavior. Death Zhang has obsessions related to his spouse dying in an accident. He will often call her many times a day at work to make sure she is alive and will sometimes become angry if he is unable to speak with her. His wifes coworkers have started to become concerned about the number of times he calls her at the office, and she is worried about the impact of this behavior on her career. How It Can Backfire No doubt, if you cater to someones excessive reassurance-seeking, your intentions are probably in the right place. It can be difficult to watch someone, especially someone you love, struggle in such a way, so your inclination may be to simply give them what they seemingly need to feel better. However, in the end, your efforts are likely only hardening the hold OCD has on them. It can also end up having a negative effect on you. Excessive reassurance seeking can result in the following unwanted results: It Gives the Obsession Validation Every time someone with OCD engages in a compulsion, it serves to reinforce the validity of the worry or obsession. After all, why seek reassurance if there is nothing to worry about? It Promotes Avoidance It also reinforces the idea that the person cannot cope with the uncertainty or distress associated with an obsession, and that avoidance is the only way to deal with it. Avoidance is particularly harmful in the case of OCD as it keeps the person from discovering that their fears may be unfounded. Although excessive reassurance makes the person feel better in the short-term, in the long-term it only serves to perpetuate the symptoms of OCD. Its Harmful to Relationships Friends and family members, who are often vital sources of social support, often become annoyed and withdraw from the affected person, which only serves to raise stress levels for all parties. Of course, stress is a major trigger of OCD symptoms and needs to be managed effectively. Providing Helpful Support Understanding that excessive reassurance-seeking is a compulsion that needs to be reduced or eliminated is the first step. This can often be done very effectively in family meetings facilitated by a mental health care provider or OCD therapist. Broadly speaking, there are two key strategies to keep in mind: Agree to Stop In the context of OCD treatment, patients, family, and friends alike must agree that asking for/providing excessive reassurance needs to stop. This can be difficult for everyone. However, once family members realize that excessive reassurance-seeking is a form of compulsion, many are able to commit to this. Target the Main Issues It is often helpful for those with OCD and their family members to identify a number of situations in which the need for excessive reassurance arises and write down the response the individual typically seeks (such as your hands are clean and disease-free) on a card. He or she can then agree to pull out the card and read it whenever they would otherwise directly ask someone for the answer. While this still represents a compulsion, it reduces distress within the family and improves relationships with others. With respect to reducing the reassurance-seeking itself, one of the most effective strategies can be to teach your loved one with OCD strategies for dealing with uncertainty.

An analysis of the main reasons for the continued spread...
An analysis of the main reasons for the continued spread of HIV HIV, a virus only discovered in the late 1970s, has now become the most lethal virus around the world (UNAIDS, 2008). Scientifically HIV is a kind of virus which can destroy humanââ¬â¢s immune system. Then, without defense of the body, other virus can easily infect body and ultimately results in death (WHO, 2013). Till the end of 2012, 35.3 millions of people live with HIV (WHO, 2013) and large quantities of family members suffer from the pain. Yet such a lethal disease only has three simple transmissions, through unprotected sex, blood, and maternal-neonatal pregnancy. However, the high mortality rate suggests that there is an urgent need to investigate deeper causes of HIVâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦For instance, in Botswana (Africa), men have dominant position in sex and condoms are seven times less likely to be used (UNAIDS, 2008). Research also found that men trend to be aggressive and sexual dominant, putting women in such a vulnerable situation in sexual relationships, e ven in rape and violate. (ICRW, 2007; WHO, 2007; UNAIDS, 2008). 40%-60%of women in Bangladesh and Thailand claimed to have sex abuse by spouses (Garcia-Moreno et al., 2005; UNAIDS, 2008). Moreover nearly 31% of countries do not have gender equity law to protect women rights (UNAIDS 2008).Those severe inequity may be a result of preference of boysââ¬â¢ ideology. In poor districts family income is only paid on boysââ¬â¢ education whereas girls are supposed to support family (UNDP, 2007).Without basic knowledge, HIV protection is difficult to be obtained by girls, not mention the proper right defense. All these inequities between men and women lead to vulnerability of women in HIV positive situation. It is also noticeable that addiction to drugs is a global burden and causes large number of HIV-positive individual, especially among adolescentââ¬â¢s transmission. Statistics shows that new trend for drug market has been focused on teenagers rather than adults (Nossal Institute, 2010). Culture Lens Free Essays
Culture lens Ford went through a hard time, not just because of the outside gloomy economics, but also the pressure of a dysfunctional, often defeatist culture. In Fordââ¬â¢s long business history, culture is not constant; it evolves, the business culture had been changed generation by generation in the economic progress and globalization. Both of essence and dross has been passed down in a grown bureaucracy, where people lost their innovation and structure is messy. We will write a custom essay sample on Culture Lens or any similar topic only for you Order Now The new chief executive of Ford Motor Co. , Alan R. Mulally was taking a culture revolution in this giant machine in order to pull it out of the deep mud. Organization values â⬠¢Pioneered modern management techniques Period 1: Ford is the birthplace of the assembly line and home of the celebrated Whiz Kids, which highly increase the efficiency in the production and copied by the other companies. Period 2: After 1960s, Ford fell into a reverse way and has degenerated into a symbol of inefficiency. Right now, it has four parallel operating units and the company has more than 30 engineering platforms worldwide, each with its own costly bureaucracy, factories, and product development staff. Period 3: Mulally took a big step and would like to reduce the level of complexity. He wants to get that number down to five or six platforms, similar to Honda. More importantly, Ford tries to eliminate all of its unnecessary duplication. â⬠¢Cooperation and efficiency Period 1: After assembly line been introduced to the world, Ford impressed all of their competitors by their highly cooperated work and their efficiency, employees worked together and impede the flaws passing to the next connection. Until the mid-ââ¬â¢60s, Ford was considered a management shrine. Period 2: The bureaucracy at Ford grew, and managers took refuge in the structure when things got tough rather than innovate or try new ideas that seemed risky. Personal ties became important in Ford, ambitious managers focused increasingly on kissing the right rings instead of racking up results, which discouraged collaboration. Period 3: With Mulallyââ¬â¢s idea, moving job tenures to a long tenure, collaboration would become more important in the future production and management. He has made it a top priority to encourage his team to admit mistakes, to share more information, and to cooperate across divisions â⬠¢Customer focus Period 1: Ford focused on customer needs, developed scientific consumer research techniques, which was one of the first auto companies to create products that were based on hard data rather than the personal tastes of executives. Period 2: Employees consider more about their logics than customersââ¬â¢ needs. The tendency of employees is to rationalize mistakes instead of fixing them. Period 3: Mulally wants managers to think more about customers than their own careers. Shared assumptions â⬠¢Rationalize problem instead of fixing problems In the example, it is easy to tell that employeesââ¬â¢ logic with problems, rationalizing mistakes instead of fixing them and focusing on customersââ¬â¢ needs. â⬠¢Royal hierarchy Within almost half centuryââ¬â¢s development, Ford has been fallen into a costly bureaucracy structure. People in the organization have their own status, and it is not allowed to share information freely, manager focus on their rings more than their jobs. â⬠¢Mediocrity is acceptable Weary corporate lifers have become all too comfortable with the idea of losing money. They do not think about to fix problems or try new ideas that seemed risk but took refuge in the structure when things got tough. â⬠¢Resist with outsiders Ford is a place thatââ¬â¢s notorious for destroying auto industry outsidersââ¬âand Mulally is admittedly no car guy. Despite Bill Fordââ¬â¢s strong backing, employees are looks arrogant and resist the revolution from outside. Symbols â⬠¢blue oval logo Fordââ¬â¢s logo is highly impressive by their customers, even in the economic crisis, Ford still can pledge their icon to finance enough money from banks and bondholders to turnaround. Assembly line This new product line created quite a stir when it had been introduced to product line; it changed the way manufacturing factory to run their business. Whatââ¬â¢s more, it is still significantly influence the world and operated in almost all of the manufacturing business. â⬠¢Henry Ford Henry Ford obviously is an outstanding personage in business area, he invente d auto business and changed the way people assemble their products. Even right now, when people talk about Ford, we still cannot ignore his impact in the auto area. â⬠¢Bureaucratic organization There are no other companies like Ford, has a high level of complexity within their organization structure. There are four parallel operating units and more than 30 engineering platforms worldwide. On the other side, duplication was common in the company; no two vehicles in Fordââ¬â¢s lineup share the same mirrors, headlamps, or even such mundane pieces as the springs and hinges for the hood. Changes in culture system can be slow and painful for an organization, especially in the high developed bureaucracy. However, the importance to take the revolution is obviously, with regard to globalization and fierce competition. How to cite Culture Lens, Essay examples

With this in mind my contribution to the learning of percussion instrument s would be. * Prior to the lesson taking place, I would make sure that the area they are going to be using is safe to the pupils and the instruments to be set up. If there is any other equipment is in the area which is not needed for the lesson, I would then put them away to another safe place. * That there is adequate equipment and that all instruments are in good working order prior to use. * I would also make sure I had a good knowledge of the instruments prior to the lesson, if I didnââ¬â¢t I would ask the teacher to clarify the names and also how they were to be used. I would assist in the preparation of the resources, ensuring the classroom was set up before the lesson begins. To also ensure that all the instruments are set up correctly as instructed for the individual instrument and for how the teacher would like them. While doing this check I will make sure they are clean and in a safe working order. So the lesson can run smoothly we need to work out if they can work individually or within small groups. If the groups are to be using music sheets then I will make sure they are in good condition and if any of them need replacing. I would also encourage the children at the end of the lesson to be responsible to put the instruments away, but dependant of their age this might vary of how much they are allowed to do, to make sure itââ¬â¢s done correctly and safely to avoid any damages to the equipment, if any were damaged I would report this to the teacher to arrange either a replacement or to be repaired. I would also make sure that at the end of the lesson that all the work surfaces are clean and the classroom back to the how it would have been found at the beginning of the lesson. Q3 Describe how you act in class in order to be an effective role model for the standards of behaviour expected in pupils. As a teaching assistant it is essential to be an effective role model to promote positive behaviour both within the class and also in the school when around other pupils, teachers and staff. Pupils cannot be expected to behave in class if your own behaviour is not appropriate. It is also important to use appropriate language and that good manners are always used at all time, this would also apply when speaking to other adults and pupils. I would also show respect for other pupils and listen to them and help encourage them to show the same courtesy to you and others. This would also apply to following school rules and to make sure these are being adhered to. It is important to notice when children are trying hard and acknowledge it. But it is also important to not forget pupils who behave inappropriate and try and encourage them or to offer a reward be it sticker or reward chart. Positive recognition must always be followed up, for example if you have told a pupil you will tell the teacher of their good behaviour then this should be followed up and the teacher made aware of this. I would also encourage children to work as part of a team, pay attention and concentrate on the task. I would also offer support to those pupils who felt isolated or were not getting involved in the task set by the teacher. It is also important for the teaching assistant to be a good role model and is not only focused on the pupilââ¬â¢s behaviour but also their learning as well. Example of this could be a child in the class who is not confident enough to speak out loudly when involved in a group task, you could build up a rapport with the child and to try and work with them about ideas they have and to then encourage them to use these ideas with in the group. Q4 what strategies might you employ to encourage pupils to behave appropriately? Describe how you might react to incidents of bullying and violence. To encourage pupils to behave appropriately I would get them involved with making the rules, keeping them simple and not to make too many as this may distract them from why rules are there. I would look at designing posters for the wall which the pupils can work in group to put their own stamp on the rules. I would also encourage them strongly to adhere to these rules and what consequences may be if not followed. I would also encourage pupils of good standards of behaviour at all times and reward them for this i. . stickers or reward charts. This will then reduce any form a behaviour problems from occurring. Be proactive and to prepare things in advance by doing this it will reduce and problems occurring. And also to imagine any possible problems that may occur though out the lesson. All signs of bullying or violence should be taken seriously and reported and logged with the teacher or other school staff. I would als o make sure that any signs of bullying or violence is acted upon correctly to make sure or minimize it from happening in the future. This should be made aware to the pupils by the teacher and to also act upon any kind of follow up as directed from the teacher if bullying or violence is found be it in the classroom or outside the classroom. This could be dealt with by dealing with the incident individually and to assess what needs are required to eliminate this from happening in the future. I feel very strongly against anti-bullying and child protection so would make sure the pupils feel I can be approachable if they need someone to talk about. Q7. Describe how you might appropriately observe the physical abilities and skills of a nine year old boy. The first thing I would do is to find out exactly what the teacher is after from the observation. This way when I report back then we know I have been getting the right information. The observation would need to be carried out on normal day for the pupil so that you can see them at their full advantage and be able to report it correctly. To do a good observation you need to make sure the pupils donââ¬â¢t know whatââ¬â¢s happening otherwise they wonââ¬â¢t be themselves. This will entail a false observation and you wonââ¬â¢t get a true result of their day to day behaviour . When observing the pupil I would attempt to make some rapport with the pupil so that they could comfortable with me being around them, especially if I am not generally known to them. Whilst doing the observation I would be looking for their- o Social and emotional ââ¬â how they interact with other o Instructions ââ¬â how they deal with group or individual tasks o Language and communication skills ââ¬â how to speak to others o Physical abilities ââ¬â how they move or handle objects
